Holly Hunter Our Christmas Surprise

My mother-in-law, June, wanted another ride in the beautiful foothills of our area-- we live in Sonora California. Off we went to Chinese Camp, as June remebers the beautiful spring flowers there. I warned her that there are no flowers this time of year ---she just wanted a ride! We no longer enter the Chinese Camp area along Sims road, when a small hound with her tongue hanging half way down to the road comes running right in front of us. My wife, Glenda, yells "stop". All the while I am thinking we have three dogs at home already. Nothing will stop Glenda if she thinks an animal is in distress. The dog comes over to the car. This time I say outloud "Darling we have three dogs at home". This doesn't deter my wife one bit. She shuts the door and says drive down the road a bit. Sure enough the friendly hound female follows the car. Right there I knew the rest of the story. I stopped and my wife tried to get the dog in the van. The dog seemed willing, but did not know how to jump into the van with June. So I go around a pick her middle up and put in the van. Ugh! She smells horrible we all say to each other (My wife is thinking, I can see the wheels,"how would you smell if you running for your life". We look all over for owner---we stop cars on sims road---nothing, nobody claims her. As we turn around my wife says we have to give her a name. Her name is "Holly" We have only had her 15 minutes now and she has a name. We stop at the little store-bar in Chinese Camp to ask if anybody has inquired about a lost dog. Everybody says no. My wife orders me to get food and water for Holly. The store owner gives me a can of dog food free-he says he doing his part. Holly wolfs down a large can of dog food, a plate of water and most of our three ice creams. We are off to Tuolumne County Animal Control in Jamestown. As we drive there we say they have a free drop off door so we will drop her off if nobody is there on Christmas morning. We open the door and there is just small cages and no one around as we call and knock at the door. At this moment I know that Glenda and I do not want to find anybody to take this friendly dog---at the same time we know we cannot take her for good at home---maybe we will keep home for a couple of days, ha, ha. Just then a very nice lady open the side gate and is willing to take Holly off our hands. Glenda goes in does the paper work and we head for home; heavy in heart this Christmas morning for Holly Hunter---as you see all our dogs have middle names,
Katie Rose, Zoe Ann, Abigail Noel and now Holly Hunter.
